Oakwood Ladies 3 – Gravesham Ladies 4 – Sunday 26th September 2021

Another excellent team performance from the Ladies this afternoon away at Oakwood Ladies who were playing a division higher last season.


An easy shot from Oakwood slipped through Tonis hands, but she just recovered to claw the ball out despite opposition players claiming the ball had crossed the line. To upset the opposition further, Tonis long kick forward found Holly Fenton-Newins who lobbed the keeper for 1-0.


Oakwood fought back & quickly equalised before a terrific diagonal pass from Imy found Holly who fired home a fierce half volley to put Gravesham 2-1 up.


Battles were being fought & won all over the pitch, with strong defensive play backed up by superb keeping from Toni and Oakwood were largely restricted to long range efforts.


Meanwhile, midfield and forwards caused Oakwood problems throughout.


Gravesham were then handed a player advantage a few minutes before ht after a punch was thrown towards Rachel, who herself received a yellow for pushing her opponent in the chest.


Within 2 minutes of the restart, though, it was back to 2-2.


Gravesham responded well and a burst through the middle saw Holly finish well for her & Gravesham’s 3rd.


Oakwood continued to press Gravesham looking for an equaliser, but Gravesham’s defence held firm & it was Gravesham who scored again next, as Imy beat 2 defenders down the left before squaring to Holly to fire home from 6 yards.


The game continued with chances at both ends thereafter until Oakwood added a 3rd with the last kick of the game.


Final score Oakwood 3 Gravesham 4. A huge well done to all 13 Gravesham players following late enforced changes to the squad.
